Ulrich Klatte Industry Expert + Co-founder

Ulrich grew up in North Germany on his family's horse breeding farm "Zuchthof Klatte". The Klatte family are world famous, having a tradition of horse breeding for well over 450 years and now recognised as a global supplier of world class breeding and performance horses.

Riding from the age of four he has enjoyed a successful and diverse equestrian career. His early years were spent breaking in and training young horses, as well as competing in show jumping and three-day eventing. Ulli’s first major result was an eventing gold medal whilst riding for the German team in the 1974 European Junior Championship. In the same year, he received a bronze medal in the German Show Jumping Championships.

Between school and university, Ulli, together with Franke Sloothaake, advanced his training under Mr Alwin Schockemoehle (Montreal Olympic show jumping gold medalist). He was rewarded with many wins in the international show jumping arena during years that followed.

In 1984, after studying economics at the University of Muenster, Ulli immigrated to Australia. He continued to pursue his competition career, with success in World Cup show jumping events and FEI Dressage.

His commitment to breeding and performance led to the establishment of the Belcam Stud. Ulli introduced an extensive breeding, training and marketing program for Australian horses. A key feature of program was the annual Belcam Auctions, which attracted international buyers leading to exports to Asia, the Pacific, USA and Europe.

In 1994, he established the Australian Continental Equestrian Group Inc., becoming a member of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. Today, the ACE Group is the largest warmblood studbook in Australia. It also caters for pony and small performance breeds.

From 2006 to 2008, Ulli established the Elysian Field International Show Jumping Event. Today known as the Aquis Champions Tour, it is currently the largest, and arguably the best, show jumping event in Australia.

He has been actively involved in the Equestrian Federation as a rider, coach and event organiser and continues to contribute to local and national coaching, show jumping and eventing committees.

There is no doubting Ulli’s contribution and commitment to the Australian equine industry. He has a vision to unite the Australian horse community and to bring it into the 21st Century. His personal goal, for equiprove, is to position Australia as world leader in data and information distribution that is easy to access, verified and relevant for the breeder, rider, service provider, event organiser, owner and horse enthusiast.
