Jump Off - There is Life After Racing

Jump Off is the first television show of its kind showcasing retired Thoroughbred racehorses in a competition format.

At the heart of Jump Off is equine welfare and this show offers a compelling and entertaining way of showcasing that there is a meaningful life after racing for Thoroughbred horses.

Hosted by Hamish McLachlan, Series 1 featured the biggest names in horse racing and show jumping. Five teams of racehorse trainers and show jumping riders selected retired racehorses, professionally re-trained them for the sport of jumping and took them to local competitions in preparation for the Grand Final.

In Series 2, Jump Off has evolved into a new competition format open to all riders with a total prize pool of $100,000.

Equine Welfare

This is a program that passionately supports the lifetime care of Thoroughbred horses. Jump Off showcases the versatility of Thoroughbreds and their outstanding potential for a positive life after racing. The series was created to promote equine welfare as not every racehorse can win a Melbourne Cup or be a champion racehorse but they can go on to have a second career in an equestrian discipline after retiring from racing. These considerations have driven the careful selection of trainers, riders and sponsors taking part in the series.

Racing Victoria is a proud Major Partner of Jump Off. The Thoroughbred is the centrepiece of the racing industry and whilst the majority of horses that race don’t make the history books, every one of them is entitled to lifetime care and good health.

Racing Victoria’s vision is a leader in world-leading equine welfare practices and proud to help build a culture in which the safety and welfare of the racehorse is paramount to all participants and owners. Fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in equine welfare throughout the industry is critical to the success of the sport.

Jump Off is an original concept created by Steve Dundon and produced by Showmakers Equestrian. The show was conceived to support the lifetime care of Thoroughbreds and showcase the potential for positive ‘life after racing’ outcomes for retired racehorses.
